Mętel
Graduate of painting (2018) and doctoral studies (2021) at the University of Arts in Poznań. During his studies, he participated in a student exchange with Shanghai Normal University. He presented his first solo exhibition, Anestki, in a rented doctor's office at the NZOZ Plac Kolegiacki clinic in Poznań. He was a resident at the Łaźnia Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdańsk (2019). He is currently working at his home university.
The art practised by Krzysztof Mętel revolves around issues of the creative process of the painterly gesture and the relationship of the painting with extra-painting discourses. He often uses borrowed objects, considered non-artistic. The works he creates consist of cycles that frame or tell a story, sometimes finding points of commonality only in formal solutions. His practice is characterised by a strong contextualisation of actions and themes, and a focus on what is usually on the periphery of the visual field and easily predictable. In his own words, he enjoys ironical solutions in his works, thus emphasising the intertextual nature of the images he paints.
