Andrzej Gieraga
Andrzej Gieraga (born in 1934 in the village of Śliwniki) is a Polish painter, graphic artist and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and the Radom University of Technology. In the years 1994–2014 he worked at the Radom University of Technology (currently the University of Technology and Humanities), serving as the head of the Department of Painting and Drawing since 2008. Since 2014 he has worked at the Faculty of Arts of the Academy of Humanities and Economics in Łódź.
His work is most characterized by balanced, geometric compositions. He has received numerous awards, including: the main prize at the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin (1972), the Golden Grape Grand Prix in Zielona Góra (1977), the President's Award at the 2nd Triennial of Polish Graphics in Katowice (1997), the Gold Medal for Long Service awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland (2006), the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2012).
