Jakub Ciężki

Jakub Ciężki (born 1979 in Lublin) is a painter and installation artist. In 2003, he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Arts at UMCS, studying under Jacek Wojciechowski. He has received the Grand Prix and other awards, including recognition at the 40th Painting Biennale "Bielska Jesień" (2011). He was also awarded scholarships by the Polish Ministry of Culture’s “Young Poland” program (2013) and twice by the President of Lublin (2015, 2016).

His work explores visual perception by experimenting with painterly methods of depicting objects. Characteristic for Ciężki is the combination of realistic illusion and geometric forms, which sensitizes viewers to everyday space and opens new dimensions of perception.
