Juściński Konrad

Konrad Juściński

Konrad Juściński (born 1977, Gorzów Wielkopolski) is a visual artist, performer, and creator of installations and spatial objects, holding a PhD in Fine Arts. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Poznań, where in 2014 he completed his doctoral degree at the Faculty of Sculpture and Spatial Activities. Since 2020, he has been running the Sculpture Studio at the Institute of Visual Arts, University of Zielona Góra. He lives and works in Poznań.

Juściński’s artistic practice develops in the field of spatial objects, site-specific installations, and performance, in which the body, matter, and time play a central role. As a performer, he explores nonverbal communication, examining the boundaries between the body and space. His actions reveal emptiness as a transitional state—fragile, susceptible to change, yet at the same time intense and contemplative. In his practice, performance is not merely an episodic event but part of a long-term research process in which every gesture, movement, and interaction becomes a carrier of experience and reflection.

An important dimension of Juściński’s work is the use of organic materials—wood, paper, and sometimes plant- or animal-based elements—which enter into dialogue with the body and space. Organic matter becomes a medium of transience, emphasizing impermanence, ephemerality, and the unpredictability of experience. Light, shadow, and the subtle texture of matter enhance a sense of tactility, while the installations function like organisms: they respond to the presence of the viewer and to spatial transformations, creating an intense, sensory relationship.

The artist addresses themes such as the boundary between culture and nature, safety and threat, utopia and the randomness of events, exploring moments of transition and transformation. His works focus on the relationship between what is visible and what reveals itself only through perception, creating an experience of presence through absence. Through his actions, Juściński develops a language of art that, by blurring the boundaries between the internal and the external, explores subtle tensions between body, matter, and time.

His works have been presented in Poland and internationally, including in Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway, France, Lithuania, Portugal, Italy, South Korea, and Japan. He has twice received scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and was awarded a research residency at Tokyo Arts & Space (TOKAS). He has also participated in artistic residencies in Japan and Ireland.
