Mateusz Piestrak
Mateusz Piestrak (born 1991) is a painter and visual artist, graduate of the University of the Arts in Poznań. In 2016, he completed his studies at the Faculty of Painting and Drawing under the supervision of Prof. Włodzimierz Dudkowiak. He won the main prize for his diploma work in the Maria Dokowicz Scholarship competition and was a finalist in the 13th Geppert competition.
His work is constantly evolving – initially inspired by postproduction theory, creating thoughtful abstract compositions. Later, he abandoned this strategy, engaging in painterly technological and formal experiments. He is known for his painted imitations of OSB boards, serving as an ironic commentary on the role of painting in contemporary culture, a manifesto of weakness, and a critique of utopian searches in art. Currently, he explores the inner world of the individual and dreamlike states, combining figuration with abstraction and granular texture.
