Monika Misztal
Monika Misztal was born in 1986 in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. She studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (2008-2012) and at the Image Concept Studio at the Faculty of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (2018-2021). An expressionist painter who uses grotesque exaggeration as well as bravura colour decisions and spectacular colour contrasts to establish a plane of experience on which the artist's experiences echo emotionally in the consciousness of male and female viewers. The experiences that Misztal evokes through her paintings are often violent in nature: hunger, disgust, shame, desire, humiliation, despair, violence or love are some of the states for which the artist seeks painterly expression, treating art as a field for working through the drama of existence.
Monika Misztal's works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, mBank's ‘m jak malarstwo’, the KAF Collection, the Starak Family Foundation Collection and the Omenaa Foundation, as well as in private art collections in Poland. In 2020, she received an art scholarship from the City of Warsaw in the field of visual arts.
