Jarosław Modzelewski

A Surrealistic atmosphere like a reality well known to the artist. An attempt to fight against the subjectivity that shapes it through a constant game of absurdities and nonsensicalities. Playing with it as a form of opposition while respecting the principles of realist painting. Despite the fact that Jarosław Modzelewski's works are included in the current of Polish neo-expressionist painting, they show real links with the real world surrounding the artist, which can be found in the schematic form and shape of the object. His paintings are a kind of result of reflection on a given moment of reality.

Modzelewski has reduced the superfluous elements in his paintings to a minimum, which has enabled him to bring the pure expression and emotion of the subject to the foreground. The people and situations shown in a conventional way, which is only an allusion to events taking place in the real world, are a testimony to the artist's critical attitude towards the current political and social situation in Poland.
