Dominik Lejman. Monk
The title figure at the center of the composition is a reference to Caspar David Friedrich's 1810 painting "Monk by the Sea." Inspired by the idea of the painting, Lejman, through projection, reintroduces a lone figure into the center of the evocative landscape, an abstract triptych. Unlike Friedrich, Lejman makes the composition abstract by sort of animating and, as it were, humanizing the medical suit that is, in a way, an afterimage of pandemic reality. Once the air is released, the "pandemic" costume shrinks and stands still, depriving us of the illusion of life, just as the illusion of presence in the painting is its projection.
The exhibition was prepared as part of the Poznan Night of Museums.
