Echoes of the Earth
Throughout human history, nature and human activity have collided, leaving scars that sometimes remind us of our relationship with the Earth. Environmental disasters, both man-made and natural, have shaped our understanding of the world around us while serving as indicators of the planet's vulnerability. In these ruptures lies the potential to reflect, act and bring about ultimate change.
When considering the number of environmental disasters, questions about the consequences of our causality involuntarily arise. Will we listen to the warnings we constantly receive from our planet? Will we make changes before the beauty we admire becomes just a memory of “extinct” natural wonders?
The paintings by Patrikk Kriššák are created as a result of the “climate anxiety” overwhelming the artist. The works presented at the exhibition are not only an expression of an activist manifesto, but above all an attempt to draw the attention of potential art viewers to the importance of the existing and growing problem. The artist has chosen global environmental changes as the main theme of the exhibition, which he shows by depicting the coral reef ecosystem. Its natural beauty seems to be an unobtrusive pretext for drawing attention to the vulnerability of the environment to the destructive actions of man. By taking real and inherently beautiful objects to the fore, Kriššák highlights a global problem by triggering positive emotions in viewers. He provokes in us the need to reflect on why something that makes us feel admiration should disappear? Die? Perish? How - devoid of ecological sensitivity - can human actions affect the reality around us in the future?
Kriššák balances figuration and abstraction in his works, aiming to create a haptic impression. The shapes that build the compositions, which allude to the forms of coral reefs, appear as a symbol of global warming. By using the author's “flashing” technique of applying paint to the canvas directly from a container, Kriššák's underwater world resembles the skeletons of his earlier living forms.
The exhibition at MOLSKI gallery will present 16 paintings dating from 2022 to 2024, in which the artist strives to abstract nature and bring out its original poetics.
