The exhibition Sublimations by Tamara Berdowska is a peculiar record of states of mind transposed into the clear and at the same time mesmerising language of geometric abstraction. For more than three decades, one of Poland's most outstanding contemporary representatives of this trend has been penetrating the meditative influence of complex geometric systems, going beyond the visualism of op-art towards universal, often also archetypal connotations.

The latest installment of Berdowska's work once again proves not only the admirable consistency of her art or her mastery of technique, but also that the source from which the artist draws remains inexhaustible, and that the potential it contains can be freely activated by the artist's imagination. The inherently supra-personal, objective language of geometry, on the one hand, is linked here to the desire to uncover the invisible matrices of reality, and on the other, resonates with individual experiential states of trance-like intensity.

The exhibition at Molski Gallery, which includes paintings, reliefs and objects from the 2023 series Insomnia, Fullness, Hallucinations and Acidic, will feature the characteristic 'signatures' of the painter's works, such as a kind of luminosity and transparency of matter, rhythmic multiplication of microstructures inscribed in macro divisions of the composition or illusions of movement created in rosette or spiral systems and negative-positive games of convexity/concavity. At the same time, there is a clear desire to broaden the spectrum of expression and the tools for its realisation, with experiments in colour and technique.

The dynamics of the individual works is interestingly enhanced by the dramaturgy of the exhibition as a whole, the gradual transition from canvases played out in neutral ranges of white and black, gradients of grey to geometric patterns juxtaposed with the bright colours of psychedelic visions. The viewer is drawn into multidimensional spaces of alternative aspects of reality, mind, illusion, devoid of the weight of matter.
