TOGETHERNESS. GIERAGA/MADERA - MEANING AFFINITIES
This exhibition is a truly cross-generational meeting, showing in a very striking way that similar issues can preoccupy artists from different generations and backgrounds. One could say that it is truly a meeting beyond time, beyond the linear order of art. Andrzej Gieraga, an artist born in 1934, creating and studying in the circle of Łódź constructivism, and Urszula Madera, born in 1995, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław; in the language of geometric abstraction, seeking an answer to the question - what is art?
Although these two artists are separated by more than half a century, common elements are present in their works, entering into a coherent intriguing dialogue with each other. Gieraga and Madeira are primarily characterized by the use of the same means of artistic expression such as light, color and geometry. Geometry, which in this case in a special way allows them to subtly transcend the boundaries of painting and turn to spatiality and three-dimensionality, which is materialized in compositions of a relief nature. It must be admitted that such artistic encounters are not at all frequent. Fashions and aesthetics change, but at the same time it happens that someone is connected with someone else, a code of values different beyond age, which, of course, are transient, but at the same time can be common.
Variability should be sought, unless such commonality unexpectedly appears, which crosses out both age, differences in experience and generational or academic code, not to mention aesthetic. These are coincidences, these are commonalities, and they are unintentional entirely.
