Patrik Kriššák Echoes of the Earth

Echoes of the Earth
Since the dawn of time, nature and human activity have been in constant conflict, leaving behind traces—sometimes deep scars—that remind us of our relationship with the Earth. Both human-induced and natural disasters have shaped our perception of the world and revealed the fragility of our planet. Yet within these fractures lies potential: for reflection, for action, and for lasting change.
When we consider the scale of ecological disasters, it’s hard not to question the consequences of our actions and our responsibility in this regard. Will we, as humanity, finally heed the warnings that Earth continues to send us? Will we implement change before the beauty we admire becomes just a memory of “extinct” natural wonders?
The artworks of Patrikk Kriššák emerged from the overwhelming sense of “climate anxiety” that the artist experiences. The pieces presented in this exhibition are not merely an activist manifesto, but above all, an attempt to draw the attention of the viewer to escalating environmental issues. The main theme of the exhibition is global environmental change, which the artist illustrates through the imagery of coral reef ecosystems. Their natural yet fragile beauty serves as a subtle pretext to highlight the vulnerability of the environment to human destruction. Kriššák emphasizes the global scale of the problem by evoking positive emotions in the viewer, provoking reflection on why something so awe-inspiring is disappearing at such an alarming rate.
In his works, the artist balances on the edge of figuration and abstraction, achieving a palpable, tactile effect. Through his original technique of “flashing”—applying paint directly onto the canvas from the container—Kriššák’s underwater world begins to resemble the skeletal remains of once-living forms of existence.
