TOGETHERNESS. GIERAGA/MADERA - MEANING AFFINITIES

07-30.06.2023

This exhibition is a truly intergenerational encounter, powerfully demonstrating that artists from different generations and backgrounds can be preoccupied with remarkably similar questions. It is, in a sense, a meeting beyond time—beyond the linear chronology of art history.

Andrzej Gieraga, born in 1934, an artist shaped by and active within the Łódź school of constructivism, and Urszula Madera, born in 1995, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, both use the language of geometric abstraction in their search to answer a fundamental question: what is art?

Though separated by more than half a century, their works share key elements that enter into a coherent and compelling dialogue. What unites Gieraga and Madera is their use of similar artistic means: light, color, and geometry. Geometry, in particular, becomes a subtle tool that allows them to transcend the conventional boundaries of painting and move toward spatiality and three-dimensionality—manifested in compositions with a relief-like character.

It must be said: such artistic encounters are rare. Trends come and go, aesthetic ideals fade, and yet a timeless connection can still emerge between individuals—founded on a shared value system, including artistic values.
