INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR IN SPAIN – ARCOMADRID
During the third weel of February we visited ARCOmadrid - International Contemporary Art Fair held in the capital of Spain.
For a week, between February 22nd and 26th Madrid became the capital of contemporary art, hosting 214 galleries from 37 countries. The fair was visited by over 100,000 people, including art collectors and gallery representatives.
Every year this world-famous fair attracts many exhibitors, but above all a whole lot of visitors. Since its inception, it has been one of the main exhibition venues on the international contemporary art market. ARCOmadrid creates a unique opportunity to present galleries from the Iberian Peninsula, and artists from Latin America, thus breaking away from the dominant Eurocentric perspective. The curator of this year's 42nd edition, Marin Fokidis, chose the "Mediterranean Sea" as the theme of the fair.
The general program consisted of various exhibitions selected by the Organizing Committee from over 170 galleries, as well as the "Opening by Allianz" section created for 30 new galleries debuting at the fair, and the "Never the Same. Latin American Art" section, in which the galleries from Latin America, thus emphasizing the historical and cultural relationship between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America.
Our stay at the ARCOmadrid fair turned out to be an extraordinary time filled with numerous inspiring conversations with interesting people from the world of art. We found out that our Polish art is of a high standard and we have a lot in common with contemporary European art.
