INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART FAIR IN SPAIN – ARCOMADRID
Last week, we visited ARCOmadrid – the International Contemporary Art Fair held in the Spanish capital.
This world-renowned event attracts numerous exhibitors and thousands of visitors every year. Since its inception, ARCOmadrid has been one of the most important exhibition platforms in the international contemporary art market. The fair offers a unique opportunity for galleries and artists from South America and the Iberian Peninsula to showcase their work, breaking away from the dominant Eurocentric perspective. This year’s 42nd edition was curated by Marin Fokidis, who chose “The Mediterranean Sea” as the fair’s central theme.
Last week, Madrid became the capital of contemporary art, hosting representatives from 214 galleries across 37 countries. The fair was visited by over 100,000 people, including many collectors and gallery professionals.
The main program featured diverse exhibitions selected by the Organizing Committee from over 170 galleries, alongside the “Opening by Allianz” section showcasing 30 debut galleries, and the “Never the Same. Latin American Art” section highlighting galleries from South America, emphasizing the historical and cultural connection between the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America.
Our time at ARCOmadrid proved to be an extraordinary experience filled with inspiring conversations with fascinating personalities from the art world. Moreover, the event further confirmed our belief that Polish contemporary art stands at a very high level and has much to offer within the European contemporary art scene.
