Night of the Museums- Dominik Lejman's "Monk"
For the occasion of the Night of Museums, we have prepared for you a presentation of the latest works from our collection, among which a special place is occupied by the work by Dominik Lejman entitled. "Monk" from 2020.
The title figure in the center of the composition is a reference to Caspar David Friedrich's painting "Monk by the Sea" from 1810. Inspired by the idea of the painting, Lejman, through projection, reintroduces a lone figure at the center of an evocative landscape, an abstract triptych. Unlike Friedrich, Lejman makes the composition abstract by sort of animating and, as it were, humanizing the medical suit that is, in a way, an afterimage of pandemic reality. When the air is released, the "pandemic" costume shrinks and becomes immobile, depriving us of the illusion of life, just as the illusion of presence in the painting is its projection.
Thank you very much for attending in such large numbers. The screening of the work by Dominik Lejman can be seen in our gallery until May 26.
