Togetherness. Gieraga/Madera - meaning affinities 07.06 - 30.06.2023
This exhibition is a truly intergenerational encounter, powerfully demonstrating that similar artistic concerns can engage creators from different generations and backgrounds. One could say it is a meeting beyond time, outside the linear order of art history.
Andrzej Gieraga, born in 1934, shaped by and working within the Łódź constructivist circle, and Urszula Madera, born in 1995 and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, both seek answers to the question “what is art?” through the language of geometric abstraction.
Though more than half a century separates them, their works share common elements that enter into a coherent, intriguing dialogue. Gieraga and Madera both employ artistic means such as light, color, and geometry—geometry which, in their case, subtly enables them to transcend the boundaries of painting and move toward spatiality and three-dimensionality, manifesting in relief-like compositions.
Such artistic encounters are rare. Trends shift, aesthetics evolve, yet a timeless connection can arise between people—rooted in a shared value system, including artistic values.
