Myszkowiak Anna

Anna Myszkowiak

Anna Myszkowiak (b. 2000, Biłgoraj) is a sculptor and creator of installations and textile forms. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Sculpture at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznań, where she received her Master’s degree in the 6th Sculpture and Spatial Activities Studio under the supervision of Prof. Karolina Komasa (2025). She also graduated from the C. K. Norwid Secondary School of Fine Arts in Lublin, earning a diploma in woodcarving. She is currently a Cultural Studies student at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

Myszkowiak’s work emerges in a space where sculptural craft, corporeality, and everyday experience coexist and enter into dialogue. She works with classical sculptural materials—wood, metal, plastics—combining them with everyday objects, which allows her to draw upon their semantic potential and generate new meanings and associations. She is committed to articulating ideas through material itself, its physical properties, and its cultural connotations.

A central thread of her practice is the exploration of personal experiences, such as living with atopic dermatitis or observing her own being-in-the-world. These become points of departure for reflections on discomfort, awe, and embodiment. Her works—sculptures, installations, and drawings—result from intense impressions or reflections and often operate within a field of ambivalence, provoking both unease and fascination.

The artist works within a rich network of cultural references, drawing inspiration from literature, poetry, and music, which become integral to her practice. The titles of her works often originate from literary texts or musical pieces, weaving an additional semantic dimension into the artwork. An example is the sculpture I am here and yet I am not here” whose title is drawn from the song “Mięsień” by Joanna Longić (Tęskno), while its visual structure refers to musical nomenclature—loud versus visually muted (obverse/reverse).

Her practice places strong emphasis on craftsmanship as a space of experimentation and a carrier of meaning. Sculptural matter is not merely raw material for forming objects, but a medium in itself. Myszkowiak seeks the most appropriate method of creation for each issue she addresses, which often leads her to discover new techniques while setting aside those she has already mastered. She weaves with metal, sews with paper, frays wood—within the context of her works, these gestures feel both necessary and fitting, significantly shaping their sensory and intuitive reception.
